IEEE Poland Section Technology and Engineering Management Society Chapter, TMC14

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) - is one of the world's largest professional organizations. It associates more than 360,000 members in 175 countries. In certain countries, there are National Sections, for example Polish Section of IEEE. As the part of the National Sections individual societies organize themselves into chapters and students branches.  

In 2013, the group of employees of the Faculty of Management, Bialystok University of Technology initiated the establishment of the Polish Chapter of IEEE Technology Management Council. The first and current Chair of IEEE Poland Section Technology Management Council Chapter is Prof. Joanicjusz Nazarko.

IEEE Technology Management Council was renamed to IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society. The following issues of science  and management practices are in the  area of  its interests:

  • management of technology and organizational strategy;
  • policy of evaluation, development and technology transfer;
  • project management;
  • management of research, development and design of products and services;
  • innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • cooperation of scientists, engineers and managers in achieving the objectives of the organizations;
  • education in the management of engineering, technology and innovation;
  • economics of invention, innovation and application of new technologies;
  • the impact of management engineering, technology and innovation on society.

20.06.2017 Virtual Production Line as a tool for analyzing creative work The author presented the concept of Virtual Production Line, which is the natural extension of Classical Production Line invented by Henry Ford in 1913 in the automotive industry as well as indicated the fundamental assumptions and differences of these ideas. The author indicated also the dissimilarities between partition and division of a complex production/service process. The problems of creativeness and proximity between experts in the project were deeply discussed. Virtual Production Line, Classical Production Line, creative process, proximity.
30.05.2017 The simulation program as the tool of the supply chains design The author presented the outcomes of the literature review concerning the application of computer simulation as the tools for designing supply chains. Appropriately designed supply chain is one of the key elements of enterprises competitiveness. In the dynamically changing economy more and more significant are relations among all entities participating in the same supply chain. The author discussed few innovative tools as well as simulation software allowing for designing supply chains in the manufacturing industry. supply chain, computer simulation, supply chains designing.
30.05.2017 Control model of distributed production and distribution of energy using Big Data analyst The author discussed the principles of operation of the energy system. Prerequisites for the development of distributed energy were indicated. The concept of smart grids was presented  as a tool for obtaining large data sets and process control. The author’s attention was also paid to the role of Big Data analytics in the development of smart grids. Big Data, distributed energy, energy distribution, energy production, smart grids.


Model of courier service quality improvement in e-commerce

The aim of the seminar was the presentation of the concept of courier service quality improvement in e-commerce branch. The presentation included the following aspects: specificity of e-commerce and its relation with courier service, the overview of literature concerning research on courier service quality and identification of research gaps. The conclusions concerned  further  research on elaboration of constructs and criteria for the evaluation of courier service quality  taking into account specificity of e-commerce.

Neural model for assessing the value of social capital

The main purpose of the presentation was to introduce and discuss the developed neural model for assessing the value of social capital of IT company. The proposed model was implemented to estimate the social capital value in Microsoft and Red Hat Corporation. The results of investigations were compared with multiple regression analysis. The studies allowed also to identify variables most significantly affecting the value of social capital.

E-services in business models of enterprises in the logistics sector

The purpose of this seminar is to identify the use of e-services among the enterprises of the logistics sector and to examine the impact of the use of e-services on the quality of the business model. The realization of the objective was possible thanks to a study carried out among the logistics sector companies that participated in the twentieth edition of the Polish ranking of enterprises in the logistics sector. The analysis of the data from the concluded study was conducted with the use of the methods of multivariate statistical analysis: cluster analysis and correspondence analysis.

Optimization of electrothermal phenomena in nanoelectronics systems

Original methods of analysis of electrothermal phenomena in nanoelectronic systems were presented at the seminar. Moreover performer showed programs and algorithms for calculations using the latest generation parallel computers.

Applications of IT systems in designing logistics processes

During the seminar, there was a presentation concerning IT systems, which support logistics processes. The speech given, described the possibilities and applications of the IT systems which are nowadays used in designing and supporting already mentioned processes. Moreover, there was also an example which dealt with the practical exploitation of the Tecnomatix Plant Simulation System used in shaping and analyzing chosen production process and possibilities of its optimization. The last subject raised during the seminar dealt with the possibilities of applying Tecnomatix software in education.

Product-Service Systems in manufacturing companies’ strategy

At the seminar, the main concept of application of Product-Service Systems in manufacturing company and classification of PSS types were presented. Benefits that accrue from systems of integrated products and services implementation, as well as barriers and challenges that manufacturing company is facing in this process, were indicated. The successfully applied Product-Service Systems in industrial sector firms at global market was presented. The speaker underscored a high research potential of the field in Poland, taking into account a national economy structure and limited number of polish publication related to the presented subject.
